Waxing: Frequently Asked  Questions!

February 13, 2018

Hi Everyone,

We are delighted to now be offering wax treatments at Creative Hands. The summer is approaching and we all want silky smooth legs without having to worry about shaving everyday.

We have compiled some of our most frequently asked questions about waxing.

1. HOW LONG, OR SHORT, SHOULD MY HAIR BE FOR WAXING?

We suggest the hair should be at least 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch for the best results.

If you have course hair it should be closer to 1/2 inch.

Once the hair becomes finer it can be waxed at a shorter length.

If your hair is longer we recommend you shave your hair and book your waxing appointment for two/three weeks later.

2. HOW SOON WILL I NOTICE SMOOTH SKIN

It may take up to three waxing treatments to achieve smooth skin due to the fact the hair grows in stages and we need to get the hair when all stages are the same.

It's important not to shave between appointments as this will interrupt the process and stimulate hair growth.

3. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET MY WAXING TREATMENT?

Every four weeks! This is essential to achieve smooth skin. We advise booking your appointments in advance so you can plan around them. Over time, with regular waxing, the hair follicle will have less grip on the hair and the hairs can be removed more easily. Frequent waxing means you will achieve less growth over time.

4. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO BEFORE MY WAXING APPOINTMENT?

  • Refrain from taking a shower immediately before the treatment as it will soften hair and cause it to break more easily.

  • Make sure your hair is the appropriate length for waxing.

  • Make sure the areas to be waxed are clean.

  • There are certain medications that will prevent you being able to have wax treatments. Oral Acne medications such as Accutane, blood thinning medications, and topical/oral cortisone make the skin more sensitive and increase the likelihood of irritation. Please check with your doctor if you are on any medications prior to your treatment.

5. WILL I GET INGROWN HAIRS?

It is possible!  Waxing removes the entire hair and root from the follicle. Your skin naturally hardens and thickens over that area  so it's important to gently exfoliate.

Use a gentle scrub in that area about 2 days after waxing and continue to exfoliate once or twice  a week thereafter.

Tea Tree can be used if the area becomes irritated. Wear lose fitted clothing after your treatment to reduce redness and allow the skin to breath.

6. HOW CAN I PREVENT INGROWN HAIRS?

Avoid the following for 24-48 hours after treatment:

  • AHA products

  • Direct sun exposure and tanning beds

  • perfumes/ creams

  • deodrants

  • wearing tight clothing

  • Working Out / Excerise

7. THE BENIFITS OF WAXING!

Waxing reduces hair growth when performed every four weeks. It is great for those who are tired of the hassle of shaving serval times a week. The more you wax the less hairs grow back.

8. CAN I SHAVE BETWEEN APPOINTMENTS?

No! Please avoid shaving as it disrupts the hair growth cycle resulting in more hair at your next appointment.

9. WILL WAXING MAKE MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER/ STRONGER/ DARKER?

Absolutely Not!

It will have the opposite effect. Hair will become sparse and not as coarse.

When hair is shaved, it is cut off at the thick part of the hair, which is why you can feel stubble the next day. Waxing removes hair from the root and when the hair grows back it is new hair, very fine at the top, so no stubble.
